Green Lantern New Guardians #25 Review

 Kyle Rayner has found paradise…..or has he?

 

In this installment of the New Guardians, Kyle and the blue dudes have arrived on a new planet and Carol is along for the ride. 

While it posed interesting questions about what goes into the making of a ‘paradise’ and whether that is the solution to the Corps, there was a little too much explanation instead of showing us.

And first of all, I have to say I’m not fond of the Carol-Kyle pairing the writers are doing. There was more chemistry between Saint Walker and Kyle (if you understand what I mean).

Still, this was an enjoyable read and left us on a familiar cliffhanger though the reveal was brilliant.

We first meet up with the Zamarons, where Carol has told them what Hal said in Green Lantern #25. And the ‘queen’ is not too pleased when Carol flies off to meet with…..Kyle.

Everyone thought Kyle was dead at the end of Lights Out and so, Carol is the first to find out he's still alive (beside the blue dudes)..

They are on a planet called Exurus, where everyone lives in harmony and the blue dudes (don’t know what else to call them) have decided that the place can be the perfect model to save the universe and end the requirement of the Corps.

But as Kyle delves deeper, we find everything is not as it seems. There is a fear lurking around and Kyle finds it near a big building where many are gathered.

By the way, Parallax is still with Sinestro and it is the last living spectrum entity. That makes Sinestro a real wildcard when he returns.

Anyway, as Kyle enters the building, he finds a high priest type infront of a large portal. Then he learns the cost of keeping the Paradise intact.

Apparently, the portal can be used to substitute the situation between the two connected worlds. Whenever anything bad happened to Exurus, the high priest ‘substituted’ that situation with another world where peace was prevailing.

This has led to many worlds suffering the fate of Exurus. And as Kyle attempts to stop the high priest, one angry race comes back to reclaim their fate!

The art is still brilliant and the visuals are beautiful. The ‘grey area’ pervading though all Green Lantern books is making for some good stories.

While there is no big villain in sight, these smaller conflicts hold their place and enrich the Green Lantern mythos.

So, I give it 8.0 out of 10
