Justice League of America #9 Review

J'onn is about to face his worst enemy.

After another round of searching for someone to salvage, J'onn and Stargirl are finally the only ones to escape - by in a unique way.

Kindt retreads most of the last issue and only does something new for a few pages. But those retreads are illuminating at least.

Derenick has been an unknown for me, but he does compliment Kindt well.

SPOILERS FOLLOW...................

J'onn is in Simon Baz's prison and finally learns what happened. Then he moves on to Xanadu (who has fallen prey to her dark impulses) while Stargirl, having ignored J'onn, has decided to follow him.

She lands in Wonder Woman's prison where the prisoner has grown to a humongous size. But as she moves on, we get a glimpse of her past.

Meanwhile J'onn has moved onto Aquaman, who has lost all reason having witnessed the end of all oceans and aquatic life. Fearing he has failed to save any of them, he moves on.

As Stargirl enters Shazam's funhouse, we get another glimpse of her past. She went into her stepdad's study and took the magic scepter.

J'onn is finally able to confront the one following him - and it is him own dark reflection. We learn that J'onn has grown vulnerable in his mind, making him susceptible to fire and weak.

But thanks to Stargirl, J'onn is able to escape with her to the real world. As they exit, they are faced with Deathstroke and his team.

And their problems are compounded when we learn J'onn has been trapped in Stargirl's head.

SPOILERS END.....................

Except for a few glimpses into Stargirl's past, this issue really didn't do anything until the end reveal.

I don't know about others, but the reveal of a dark J'onn as the shadowing figure really didn't do it for me. Kindt had the chance to do something unique and he didn't.

But now that they are finally out of the prison, and with an interesting status quo, I look forward to them facing the villains.

So, I give it 6.0 out of 10

+Good flashbacks regarding Stargirl
+Art was very good

-The reveal of the stranger was cliched
-Mostly filler
