Justice League #30 Review

A look back….

Lex Luthor affirms his motivations to join the Justice League while new threads are started as obstacles start to pour it against the Justice League.

Geoff Johns delivers a solid but predictable issue, though the artwork by Manke and Reis is excellent as always.

SPOILERS FOLLOW…………

It’s a deft swerve as the Secret Soicety revives following the fall of the Syndicate, but their ominous mutterings are left in ruin as the ‘Justice League’ enters complete with the new roster of Shazam, Batman, Cyborg, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Captain Cold and led by – Lex Luthor??

We then go back four days ago, as Lex is heralded across newspapers as the one who saved the world from the Crime Syndicate.

Clark is really ill-tempered at this, but Bruce assures him that while Luthor’s motives are suspect, he did save the world and his popularity is so high LexCorp is overflowing.

Even as Luthor tells the media that the real heroes are the daily people who work to save lives everyday, and not super powered heroes (actually Luthor really believes that), Bruce and Clark are still harboring misgivings about the fallout.

Elsewhere, the Chief (wait, wasn’t he crippled?) and his new Doom Patrol watch the news reporting Luthor clearing the Justice League of any faults with disgust.

Diana is also expressing her resentment at this reveal – by beating up Metallo. Trying to find Luthor, Diana is taking the offensive while Flash tries to cool her down.

In Central City, Len Snart, newly relived of all charges as Captain Cold, talks to his parole officer about the chance to go straight again and the latter assures him that he can.

At the Batcave, as the League try to figure out where Lex is, they receive an invite – from the Watchtower. Apparently, Luthor rebuilt it after the previous one was destroyed by Despero.

The new Watchtower is exactly opposite where the first one was in space, and Luthor is there to greet them with champagne. And Shazam is there as well.

Luthor stakes his claim to membership in the Justice League and, despite willfully subjecting himself to Diana’s lasso, is rejected. He reiterates that the danger is still imminent as the ‘thing’ the Syndicate was fleeing from is still out there and for now, their interests align.

After Luthor leaves, the League discuss the ‘threat’ looming over them, including whether it is Darkseid or if they can go over to Earth 3 to analyze the situation. Cyborg determines that they might be able to trace the late Power Ring’s ring.

And we find out it’s current location is in Oregon as a woman tries to speak to her sister. Jessica Cruz is potrayed as a 'survivor', who was paranoid about the end of the world and thus, prepared when the Syndicate attacked while others weren't.

Jessica though has other troubles – the ring is ordering her to accept it. It will be interesting to see why the ring chose her and what role she will have in the coming months.

At Wayne Manor, Alfred receives an unusual visitor looking for Batman – Lex Luthor.

SPOILERS END…………….

This is basically an aftermath issue for Forever Evil, as Luthor stakes his claim to the Justice League membership.

The artwork is good, supplied by Reis and Manke.

So, I give it 8.0 out of 10.
