Forever Evil: Arkham War #5 Review

To beat him you must become him.

Tomasi has totally lost control of what should have been the cherry on top of the Forever Evil cake.

Instead, Arkham War has disintegrated into a random illogical sequence of events that do not do the brilliant Batman rougue gallery justice.

This issue further cements that, and I have no idea how this event can be rescued and I'm not sure if Tomasi has any escape routes left.

Eaton continues to be good, but with content so miserable, he's not left with much to do.

SPOILERS FOLLOW........

Not much happens here.

Bane and Cobb fight the Talons alongside Bane's men (who seem to be limitless and completely useless) and with a variety of man-overs, subdue them.

So, it's over for the talons? We even have one going 'My name is' and 'For Arkham Asylum!' just so you weren't paying attention to who is fighting for which side.

And every time Eaton draws Bat Bane, I let out a groan. The costume is that of a venom addled Bruce and even that would work, but Bane in a Batman suit (I'm not even gonna ask who his tailor is) still makes me uneasy even after 2 issues of seeing it.

There's also a Dark Knight Returns homage with the horse riding but.....meh.

Bane keeps his signature pride but the costume is ruining it. We didn't need a fake Batman for this event. Cobblepot and Gordon, two people who were setting up to be major players, are almost absent (Penguin is) here.

Instead the focus continues to be on Jonathan Crane aka Scarecrow who understands that the war is being lost, and so brings out lame Plan B - make everyone a Venomified version of themselves. This didn't work in Batman: Dark Knight (Knight Terrors) and I'm sure it's not gonna redeem this event.

Still two issues to go......groan.

SPOILERS END.......
Tomasi loses the plot completely and this event is now in free fall.

All the potential of a brilliant face-off is gone and closure is the only thing keeping me tethered to this miniseries.

So, I give it 4.0 out of 10

+Bane has a nice character moment
+Good art

-Illogical decisions
-Important characters glossed over
-Poor pacing
