Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S. #6 Review

Light and darkness.

First off all, why give these misleading covers? Showing Dr Light fighting Steve Trevor wouldn’t have been a spoiler. Superwoman is absent here while Cheetah is unconscious.

Instead, its Doctor Light fighting Killer Frost and Steve Trevor, with a supplementary plot development with Mr Green and Lt. Candy (who names these people?) discussing A.R.G.U.S.

The artwork is great on close-ups and is adequate elsewhere. Trevor’s character work is spot-on, and he plays off Caitlyn Snow very well.

SPOILERS FOLLOW………….

In the Green Room, the President and Lt. Candy are in deep discussion with Mr. Green. Mr. Green explains that A.R.G.U.S has existed since the creation of America, operating under different abbreviations.

He also explains that the Crimson Men are a religious cult, apparently devoted to Darkseid (though I’m not sure how that works in the New 52 timeline) and opposed to A.R.G.U.S.

Then we quickly move back to Central Park, or wherever a naked Steve Trevor is. The Morai have come to collect, but after showing Steve some more memories, they are met by defiance, and leave but not before apparently stealing a future where Steve will be heralded for his efforts during Forever Evil.

We see Steve is in an ice block as Dr Light fights Killer Frost. As Steve breaks out, he reveals that the Morai showed him a way to stop Light – by trapping him in Diana’s lasso, he forced Light to understand what the situation was.

Confused, Dr. Light leaves as Steve explains that the memory that he saw was Diana using the lasso on herself and showing Steve that she has moved on from him.

Suddenly, Martian Manhunter invades Steve’s head and he learns the overall situation. Rushing off with Snow, he decides that after all this; he will rebuild A.R.G.U.S. as a non-convert organization.

In the Green Room, Mr. Green reveals himself to be one of the Crimson Men and that his plans for Steve Trevor and A.R.G.U.S.’s fall are only starting.

SPOILERS END……………..

This has been an event which bathed itself mostly in mediocrity, though it was exciting learning more about the covert side of the DC universe.

The battles with Cheetah and Dr. Light were anti-climatic and the only thing I can take away from this is that Killer Frost got interesting, while Steve got some much needed character development.

So, I give it 7.0 out of 10

+Some interesting factoids about A.R.G.U.S.
+The artwork was mostly above par
+The Snow-Trevor combo hit all the marks

-Overall it was a dull tie-in
-Anti-climatic battle with Dr Light
