Spider-Man 2099 #6 review

Welcome home.

Miguel returns home but isn’t alone – as a team of Spiders face down Daemos.

We first saw Lady May in Spider-Verse #1, and she’s a welcome addition to the Spider army facing down the Inheritors.

Peter David crafts an engaging Miguel and has some great moments for the supporting cast – including Gabriel.

Will Sliney proves a formidable partner-in-crime as he renders the futuristic 2099 universe it’s unique shade.

SPOILERS FOLLOW………

Current status quo: Miguel O’Hara, the Spider-Man of 2099, in an attempt to fix a timeline breach, traveled to the current year and was stuck there while the Spider-Man of that time (actually Dr Octopus with Peter’s body) was stuck in 2099.

As the Inheritors struck, Spiders of different universes gathered together and Miguel is able to return to 2099. During Spider-Verse, one of the Inheritors, Daemos, was ‘killed’ but apparently a clone appeared to take his place.

Tyler Stone, CEO of Alchemax (think of Norman Osborn and Oscorp with Norman being Peter's father), having finally gotten rid of Spider-Man is shocked to see him back, this time with ‘friends’ – Six-Armed Spider-Man and Lady Spider.

Gabriel, Miguel’s friend, is shocked to see him back (especially after the interesting confrontation he had with SpOck) but is immediately tongue-tied by May.

Daemos through disrupts the moment looking for his fallen body (see AMS #10) and is able to kill Six-Armed Spider-Man.

Lady May is also in his grasp, but seeing that she is just a person in a Spider-like mechanical suit, thinks to play with her but is blasted by Gabriel (which earns him a full on lip kiss from May!) and hurt.

Miguel confronts Stone through a Alchemax guard’s visor and him and May lead Daemos to Alchemax – where he is trapped in a statis field.

This was mainly the Lady May show and a good one at that, after her appearance in Spider-Verse #1. She is developing into an intriguing member of the Spider-Verse though it’s sad to see Six-Armed Peter go like that – he had a good moment in Spider-Verse Team-Up, but it seems like he wasn’t worth exploring more.

The Inheritors have been shown to be beatable, through certainly durable enough that I’m having a hard time believing Alchemax could stop him. Still, you never know…..

And finally, that is one scary awesome cover. One of the best in recent times.

SPOILERS END…………….

With a good character arc for a new Spider, Miguel’s return to his timeline has its share of highs and lows.

The artwork is good through nothing ground-breaking, working well as a foil to David’s writing.

So, I give it 7.0 out of 10.

+A great showpiece for Lady May
+Some good artwork
+A great and accurate cover

-Very continuity heavy. Knowing the 2099 universe helps
-One of the characters is bumped off rather abruptly
-Antagonist defeated too easily
