John Stewart takes the fight to Relic in Oa's last moments.
I am loving John Stewart's character run so far - he has gone from being the 'guilt-ridden war hero' to an actual Green Lantern who can lead from the front lines since the end of the First Lantern storyline.
I've loved what Tomasi did with Guy, but his John fared far worse. So, it's reassuring to see him in all his greatness here.
From the army constructs to taking charge of the situation when Hal goes off his rockers (more on that later), his military calmness and rational thinking is the highlight of this issue.
The characterization of the new recruits continues to give some good moments and make this feel more like a team book than it has been for a long time. The art isn't great but acceptable while the writing gives us a fairly straight forward but exciting plot line.

I have to get something off my chest first. This Hal Jordan doesn't feel like he's made a long journey from being a casanova daredevil to the mature leader of a galactic force. Johns took Hal through a plot to cement him as the greatest Green Lantern but this story takes him way way back. He's cocky and idiotic. And all of this feels like it's being done to pull Stewart higher.
A good writer is always able to make a character better without destroying another. And Hal is being put down. I don't exactly like that.
But Stewart is the man in the spotlight here and Van Jensen is able to do him justice. He is able to assess the situation and helps Hal in leading the Corps in there evacuation of Oa.
And his alien constructs are good (through I expected something like that from Kyle), but that mecha is amazing!
Also, we get some more reveals. Apparently, the Guardians had an Escape Protocol ready in case Oa was in danger of exploding. The Citadel? Well, it was a rocket!
The new Blue Guys (I mean, Guardians? Keepers? Maltusians?) seem to be keen on Kyle for some reason and the fact that no one was able to harness white light in Relic's universe may play a pivotal part in this storyline later on.
We also get small cameos from the likes of the jailer Voz and Kanjar Ro. Jruk gets another page which ends with the loss of his hand. And finally we get a great moment from one of the older new recruits. The way in which he responds to Relic's barbs and sacrifices himself for the Corps was well written.
And finally, the shot of Oa exploding! How good was that?
Finally, this is a must read for any Green Lantern and John Stewart fan. While the writing was good (although a little biased), the art was a little awkward.
Overall it was a good read and proceeded the storyline, giving some good character moments.
So, I give it7.5 out of 10.
