Damian Son of Batman #2 Review

Poor Damian. Poor Kubert. Poor me.

When this miniseries started, I had apprehensions of how Kubert would handle it.

Now, that's changed.For the worse.

If you thought Batman Dark Knight has been a travesty in the early days of New 52, this has set the bar lower for Batman comics. Maybe any comic for the last few years.

The stark difference between a writer and artist has never been more prominent than in this book. The art excels in places while the story continues to be so bad that it negates the art and more.

Kubert gets the voices completely wrong (except maybe Alfred) and the over-the-top dialogue would make Batman '66 blush.

This was supposed to be a bridge between Damian and Son and Batman 666. Instead, the revelations here has confused the hell out of me.

SPOILERS FOLLOW.........................

We first get to see Bruce Wayne in the toilet. Wait a minute, no that's his angry face and he's talking to his son. Their conversation is so expository that it feels like the narration box (the one that is supposed to be there for exposition) has been shoved down the character's throats.

Apparently it was Dick Grayson who died from the exploding fish. Because, well, this is Damian's story so it doesn't matter that Dick died such a stupid death.

Bruce then attacks Damian and we get Damian talking with a speech impediment, when his face seems fine. Poor jokes are littered here as Damian's character under Morrison is thrown out the window.

I won't even get to why Bruce is not Batman because well, that's never explained.

Anyway, Damian is able to stick a rod into the 'old man' and Alfred shouts at him. Then what follows is so confusing that I have no idea what's going on. Pyg is attacking Gotham and a clown nurse is standing over Bruce.

What. The. Hell?

Then Damian dons the new style Batman dress (from 666) on advice of the priest Jim Gordon (who loud entreaties reveal to the church that Batbrat is there) and he pledges that he will be a good Batman (wait, where's the clown nurse?). Apparently, Bruce is so highly dosed that he doesn't say anything about it.

SPOILERS END.............................

Setting a new bar in comics (on the low side), this travesty of a tale destroys Damian inch by inch. Given he's dead in the main New 52 and Lil' Gotham doesn't count, anyone who reads this may wonder what's so great about Damian.

And that cannot be allowed.

If you like Batman, don't read this. If you like Damian, buy it and throw it into the fire.

So, I give this 1.0 out of 10

+Art good in patches

=Dialogues are stupid as anything
-Characters are mishandled like anything
-The story is headless right now
