Green Lantern #29 Review

The calm before the storm……

Hal and the rest enjoy a moment of reflection until the final battle begins. With almost the entire universe at odds with the Green Lantern Corps, Hal decides to visit Earth while finally getting off his high horse on Mogo.

The dialogue is strong, through content continues to be filler even at this late stage of this event. The artwork is patchy at time, but the primary visuals continue to be excellent.

SPOILERS FOLLOW……………

On Mogo, a fish lantern discovers a case with vials located far from the Green Lantern headquarters.

Elsewhere, Hal Jordan pays a visit to his brother Jim (no glasses?) in Coast City and places his family under Baz’s protection. We get a reminder of Hal’s bargain with Guy (during Lights Out) about handing over the reins of Space Sector 2814 to Guy and his Reds.

As Mogo hurtles through Space to reach Hal’s designated war position, Saint Walker and Mogo discuss Mogo’s ability to move so freely and his own loss of hope.

At Base, Salaak makes some comments about the draining mechanism being more sophisticated than Relic’s iteration when Hal comes in and requests some hard advice on how to handle things.

On Gwottle in Space Sector 0487, the native mechanics help the Khund in building their weapons cache when the Green Lanterns, led by Hal, arrive.

Thanks to Lantern Gorin-Sunn, they’re able to stop the Khund and company. Imprisoning the Khunds, Jordan orders Vath to clear the Gwottens and destroy the weapons facility.

Back on Mogo, the Durlan ‘spy’ apparently is the owner of the vials case but seems unnaturally queasy.

Some good character moments and Hal comes off his high horse for once. Walker’s progress though the stages of grief continue though the whole ‘Durlan War’ thing seems to have slowed down until the next salvo.

SPOILERS END………………

The artwork is okay, and even though the plot slows down, we get some nice quiet moments for Hal, Walker and the rest. The next stage of war is approaching and the story seems to be going through the motions right now.

So, I give it 7.5 out of 10.

+Some nice artwork
+Hal gets some little character moments, as does Walker

-The story seems to be going through the motions right now
