Earth 2 #24 Review

Prison Break.

We get the Justice Society duo back together in this issue as Green Lantern leads an assault on Flash’s captives.

Tom Taylor brings Alan Scott in all his glory as he gives the parademons hell. It’s a nice change of focus from the ‘Earth 2 Justice League’.

Nicola is solid as usual, and really complements Tom beautifully.

SPOILERS FOLLOW……….

Beguiler tortures the Flash more and more, though his witty banter is more akin to the pre-New 52 versions of Wally West or Bart Allen than Jay Garrick.

Still, it’s a nice refreshing change of pace to the more doom and gloomy atmosphere of the previous books.

Alan is now on full god mode as he tracks Flash down with his new firmer connection to the Earth and is able to take on Beguiler while Hawkwoman extracts Jay (the battle is mostly one-sided thanks to Dark Superman taking his android wife to his parents. Yes, that happened and it’s awesome!)

There’s an interesting exchange of dialogue between her and Batman that hints at the Earth 2 version of the Pied Piper, a former Rogue on the main Earth who’s now a hero.

On Amazonia, we learn that Connor Hawke did die in the attack on the Batcave as predicted by Dr Fate. While I’m not a fan of offing secondary characters who haven’t actually got a chance to shine, this was needed to show us that the stakes are different from the main Earth.

Thomas Wayne aka Batman blames Val the Kryptonian for this. Jimmy takes Thomas to task for his unfeeling speech, and even gives the ‘I thought I could be your Robin’ talk. Talking with Val, it is revealed that the alien has a variant Superman costume on him already (and a cool nod to Superman's most prevailing image as the common man rising up).

While I still feel Tom is having a hard time capturing the voices of GL and Flash, he is deftly handling the situation of Amazonia.

SPOILERS END……………

There are some good character moments here, as everyone has to face up to what they’ve gone through upto now. And if that place is Earth 2, almost everyone is seriously messed up.

Tom alternates well between the Earth 2 Justice League and the Justice Society teams without neglecting anyone, but sometimes the voices feel wrong especially for the latter members.

So, I give it 8.0 out of 10.

+The character moments are well done
+Good pacing
+Some great visuals
+The stakes are excellently explained

-The voices feel a little wrong for some character
