The Rogues have returned to Central City. And their actions put them at odds with the other villains.
I'm loving what Buccellato is doing with the Rogues. His shades of grey for the Rogues are proving great for a villain-versus-villain story.
The character strokes are beautifully done and the art proves a great foil.
SPOILERS follow...................
The Rogues come back to Central City in the aftermath of Grodd's destruction of the city (see Grodd #1 and Rogues #1) and survey the carnage. We see the villain Girder and the others dead.
This is followed by something very special from the Rogues. While for the other villains, this was a moment to wreck havoc, the Rogues first freed the cops tied to the trees and then go to the hospital to see Lisa, Captain Cold's comatose sister.
The Trickster proves a great contrast to Cold's methodology. While he's all for chaos and death, Cold believes that there is nothing so black or white with them. There's a great speech capturing the beliefs of the Rogues and how they differ from the others.
It seems Grodd will not be the main villain of this mini-series (or all least for now) and we were first treated to a battle between some B-grade villains and the Rogues.
But after they are dispatched (and we get a great moment of Cold's leadership), the Rogues have to go up against Power Ring and Deathstorm!
There were two artists on this issue and everything worked seamlessly except for Power Ring's face.
As usual, the writer was at the top of his game and gave us great moments for the rogues. Captain Cold's characterization is especially standing out.
To any Rogues lover, this is a must buy. Even if you don't love the Rogues already, this may just prove the start of a beautiful relationship!
So, I give it 9.0 out of 10.0
+Great character development +Plot progresses brilliantly +The art supplements the plot very well
-The art was a little erratic, especially towards the end
