Sacrifices must be made when the entire Spectrum goes against Relic. Not many concluding chapters to big events hit the mark.
And while there was some deus ex machina involved as usual, this was a very straight forward storyline with some major surprises along the way.
The art as always is brilliant, especially when the different corps of the spectrum have to be shown.
Hal is likable again at the end, there's a new base of operations and a major moment of self-reflection at the end.
But this story was Kyle's all the way. He's come a long way since being the only Green Lantern and that was on show here at a place usually frequented when Apokalypse is involved.
SPOILERS FOLLOW……………
While Hal has managed to bargain with Guy about getting help
from the Reds, a different sort of help gets Kyle in trouble.
Guy learns that John is apparently dead and is all for an immediate
attack, when Carol drops a bomb by revealing that she has created a tether to
Kyle (thereby stating that she ‘loves’ him) and this gets Hal is full jealous
mode. Another face-slapping moment for me in an event where Hal has already
been treated shabbily.
Near the Source Wall (yes, that Source Wall), Relic is
trying to breach it to gain access to the light reservoir beyond it.
Apparently, the Entities want that too. Kyle on the other hand isn’t too sure
about it and this forces Relic to capture them and drain the light.
John on the other hand isn’t so dead as he is with the
Indigo Tribe. He tries to talk the new recruits out of going into battle, but
is voted down.
All of the Corps collide as they destroy the ship and free
Kyle. Kyle uses his full force to push Relic into the Source Wall. They disappear
but a few moments later, Relic returns with the news that the reservoir has
been replenished thanks to Kyle. He is then trapped forever by the Source Wall.
Hal and his troops are transported to Mogo via the Indigo
Tribe while Kyle returns from the Wall with the news that the Entities are dead,
having sacrificed themselves to replenish the Reservoir.
On Mogo, the new base for the Green Lantern Corps, the
members are ashamed to say the oath. This event has shaken some who wonder
aloud whether they are a force of good or not. And Kyle has come back having
seen something that cannot be revealed now.
New status quos have been established and Vendetti and his team have put their mark on the post-Johns era.
Relic has always been a little underwhelming (though his cause was correct, his methods were not) and his story is wrapped up by an unexpected but delightful way. The reservoir is replenished (though I wish they hadn't hurried through it) and so, the major plot line has also been resolved.
In all, a good event for a new team but not as enduring or appealing as when Johns took the reins.
But then, what is?
So, I give it 7.5 out of 10.
+Some good reveals +Art is brilliant as always +A new status quo is established
-Plot resolved a little too easily -Few character beats
