Green Lanterns #27 Review

War has been declared.

The pieces finally fall into place as the Green Lantern Corps face hostility from all sides.

Vendetti is really putting Hal and the Corps through the grinder. With great supporting art from Eaglesham, who is new here, we enter the next stage of the Corps.

SPOILERS FOLLOW...........................

We first get a glimpse of the construction on Mogo as John Stewart takes command while Hal checks up on the clinic, where Soranik Natu is tending to the wounded and most importantly.........Saint Walker.

Walker wakes up and learns about the Blue Spectrum and Kyle's death (actually alive, but Hal doesn't know). Breaking down, Saint Walker realizes that hope itself was destroying the universe and relinquishes the blue ring.

Leaving Walker, Hal tells Kilowog their priority is Sinestro and his Corps. Kilowog thinks his friend is trying too hard and gives Hal advice that he needs to look at the big picture. The Braidsmen arrive in their prison transport and immediately cause chaos. In the confusion, two of them slip out and meet with their contact on Mogo.

Following him/her, they enter the Citadel, thinking it is clear. They come face-to-face with Natu and are allowed to move on as Natu safeguards the patients. Entering the control room, they take out Hal before Natu can warn him.

The contact reveals itself to be a Durlan and it assimilates Hal's DNA. Becoming Hal, it transmits a message to the universe that the Corps are the law now, revealing in the process  that it is their use of spectrum light that is destroying the universe (we get a cameo from Baz as well. Is this after or before Forever Evil? Who cares?), rendering all Green Lanterns enemy to the people.

As attacks start everywhere, Hal recovers in time to see the Braidsmen and the Durlan leave and the Citadel explode.

SPOILERS END....................

This was bound to happen, and feels like a natural progression from Hal's holier-than-thou speech at the beginning of this arc.

Now that the war has begun in earnest, we can look forward to how Hal deals with a universe turned against the Corps.

So, I give it 8.0 out of 10

+The pieces fall in place
+Some amazing visuals
+Saint Walker is back but 'all is not well'

-The pacing is still a little off
