Who guards
the guards?
John Stewart
leads a group investigating a destroyed green lantern sector house in sector
0422 while Arisia and her team return from a disastrous PR trip to the Khund.
Jensen and
Vendetti continue the Durlan War by putting John and the others under the new
status quo – it is open season on anything green. The plot doesn’t advance all
that much but we get some good character moments, although some overstay their
welcome.
Two artists
– Chang and Chen take part with Chang drawing the main issue with Chen filling
in the ‘inter-connecting’ parts. The difference is hardly noticeable through
Chang still seems to have a problem with spread shots.
SPOILERS
FOLLOW…………………….
John and his
group – Iolande, Vath, Isamot, Oliversity and Star Sapphire Yrralocate a destroyed
sector house near the borders of the Khundian empire. Filtering through the
debris, Vath locates an instrument that drains green lantern energy. In
between, a fierce argument starts between Vath and John, both former military.
While Vath is resentful that the Science-cell convicts were allowed to live
(courtesy Voz) and by extension, Fatality aka Yrra (a former bounty hunter who
killed Lanterns), John has grown softer and wants evidence before they
prosecute anyone.
A little
away, the escaped convicts quarrel before the Durlans appear and order them to
help so that the Lanterns can be extinguished and the universe is theirs. At
Mogo, Arisia and her team clear a room when Hal’s message comes (see Green
Lantern #27).
Hal’s
message leaves them all confused when ‘he’ tells the universe the truth about
the light reservoir and boasts that they are the only light allowed to shine as
a Corps. Before John and his group can properly react, calls come on all sides
of Green Lantern sector houses getting attacked.
They rush to
the nearest one and are able to board a Khund ship and stop the attackers.
Leaving it, they find themselves faced with the entire Khundian armada.
SPOILERS END…………
John gets
some character moments as he flits between love, anger and desperation. With
the new Green Lantern status quo, John is place in an interesting situation.
The art
remain par as the different convicts and lanterns are drawn with equal attention.
While some spreadshots falls a little short, most of it is on par with such a
cosmic event book.
Hopefully,
now that the pieces have fallen in place, Jensen can dive into the Durlan War.
So, I give
it 6.5 out of 10
+Some good character moments for John
+Some actual detective work
-Plot still feels like setup even through the war has begun
-Vath is becoming repetitive
