Justice League Dark #27 Review

Evil vs Evil

Constantine takes some drastic measures while two of the trinity take the fight within.

I'll be covering what happened in between this and Justice League Dark #26, so hang tight.

DeMatthis is uses this issue to give most characters some closure and we come to the end of the first of two acts of the Blight event.

The artwork is appropriate but slackens off some times.

SPOILERS FOLLOW............

Phantom Stranger faced Blight after faking his own betrayal but when they were set back again, he decided to take the issue to heaven.

Heaven revealed what each member of Dark have inside their hearts and this led to a big revelation for Pandora. She became the embodiment of light temporarily and destroyed the sins.

Zauriel was ordered to join the fight while the Spectre (seems like Crispus Allen once, and Jim Corrigan the rest) stood aside and watched. But the rearguard failed apparently as Phantom Stranger and Pandora were 'destroyed' by Blight after a moment of hesitation on Pandora's part is killing Chris Esperanza, Blight's host.

Here, the rest of the Dark team continue the fight but they lose Zauriel to Blight.

In a surprise twist, Pandora and Phantom Stranger have survived and purposely entered Blight's consciousness to free Chris from the inside. Zauriel comes in to stop them and says that Heaven wants Chris to 'evolve'.

In the material world, Constantine takes a drastic step as he and Nightmare Nurse decide to use a curse to release their inner demons (I mean, they literally turn into demons) and using Swamp Thing and Deadman as a distraction, they attack Blight.

But before things turn deadly and Constantine sinks fully into darkness, Nightmare Nurse brings John out of the curse.

Inside Blight's consciousness, Chris starts to glow and suddenly Blight dissolves in a halo of light.

It seems Chris had wanted to experience Evil and that was why he chose to be Blight's host. Only by overcoming it, did he evolve into his true self (which seems awfully like the herald of Darkseid in Final Crisis) the spirit of Redemption (is it like Spectre is to Vengeance or something?).

With Constantine now fully able to locate Zatanna, they decide to go and save her and the rest.

SPOILERS END...............

The first act was drawn out but had some nice moments, especially for Pandora.

Now that they can finally go to their original objective, we may find this next act more better.

The artwork is bearable, especially given the hard work trying to tie-in different realms and unique combatants.

So, I give it 7.5 out of 10

+Some nice character moments
+Some very good visuals
+The story is back on track

-The conclusion felt drawn out
